Is your mask making you break out?

Hi, how are you doing?

I just want to say thank you. Getting back to work in May has been a good experience, thanks to everyone being so kind, and I deeply appreciate everyone being willing to work together on these new policies. Thank you for your business, your support, and your kind words. It means a lot!

Is your mask making you break out?

While there are several factors right now that are going to contribute to increased acne ( stress, and stress eating delicious carbs and sugar) it’s most likely acne mechanica, which is basically friction that causes breakouts.

I see it a lot in the summertime, usually on the forehead, and many times caused by a ballcap and sweat. Football players deal with it a lot because of the tight chin straps on their helmets.

What to do about it? Use a very thin layer of either vaseline or aquaphor under your mask. Very thin, it doesn’t need to be like frosting. This will create a barrier and help reduce the friction, and since vaseline and aquaphor are acne safe, you don’t have to worry about them causing more issues.

I don’t recommend this only if you’re wearing an N95 mask, as you need a good seal around the edge of the mask.

COVID-19 policies for June:

  • Please wait in your car until your appointment time, as I’m sanitizing extra thoroughly between clients. You don’t have to call to let me know you’re here, I’ll be ready for you right at your appointment time. This will most likely be a permanent policy.
  • Please still wear a mask for your waxing appointments. I know, I hate them too but I want to do everything I can to continue to keep both of us healthy.
  • Still no kids or guests, please come alone to your appointment.

See you soon!
