Quick tips for dry skin

Is your skin as dry as the Sahara right now? It can take a constant effort to keep it hydrated in these winter months, with the heaters sucking all the life out of your skin.

Remember, it does not matter how much water you drink during the day. If you’re using skincare that is stripping your barrier and irritating your skin, all that water will never make a difference on your face. Less is more with your skincare during the winter, think calming/soothing/hydrating/simplicity.

  1. Cut back on exfoliating. I know this seems counterproductive, because you want to get all the dry skin off. But over-exfoliating can strip and irritate your skin, making the situation much worse. Shoot for about every 10 days-2 weeks, and stay away from mechanical exfoliants like scrubs. Chemical exfoliants like pumpkin peels and peel pads tend to cause less damage because you can’t over scrub with them. Right now I’m doing my pumpkin peel mask every 2 weeks.
  2. Switch from a foamy cleanser to a cream cleanser, if you haven’t already. I can tell a huge difference in the winter dryness in my skin just from this. Shop acne safe cream cleanser here – Renewal Skin Therapy cream cleanser
  3. Use a hydrating serum under your moisturizer for an extra boost. This way, you get the water based hydration your skin needs without having to layer on a Crisco like moisturizer.
  4. Make sure you’re getting enough healthy fats in your diet. I am NOT A DOCTOR, so check with your doctor to see if Omega 3 supplements would be a good choice for you. They’re not for some people. But if it’s safe for you to take them, they can help tremendously. They’re also great for cystic acne problems.
